Binaural Tone Lab headphones on · A/B beat recipes over your own music

Put headphones on. Pick a track (or open one of your own), choose a goal such as Meditate, and start its session — twenty minutes is a comfortable place to start, but nothing here needs a minimum. This is experimental audio for relaxation, meditation practice and A/B listening comparisons: the complete presets have not been clinically validated, and the page makes no medical claim. The tones are made live in your browser — nothing is uploaded. If you find a mix you like, copy the page address: your settings are in it.

Goal

A goal moves the beat; a recipe chooses how it sounds. Sessions follow the music: transition, hold, then a 2 min gentle ending when the music ends. Sleep is the exception — it runs for a total time you choose.

Beat & carrier

Carrier: pick the key root or fifth of the track — a musical choice. No carrier range is established as best; G3 ≈ 196 Hz is the default here, and 250 Hz is mainly useful for comparing with studies that used it. Width 1 keeps the pair on separate ears; width 0 mixes both tones into both ears (a mono mix), which is no longer a binaural pair.

Recipes Selected: Weil-ish

A recipe is the sound only (layers, gains, waveform, carrier, heartbeat) — it never changes the track or beat. Recipes are not interchangeable as stimuli: they use different methods, and brainaural-ish contains no binaural pair at all. Adjusting a recipe setting marks it as Custom. Settings live in the URL hash.
Your own presets, as a file: unlike a recipe, this captures everything — track, tones, arc/goal, export options and guided breathing. Loading one stops any running session first, the same as opening a saved link fresh.

A true binaural pair: f in the left ear, f+Δ in the right. The beat is produced by the listener, not present in the signal — so it needs headphones; on speakers the two tones mix in the air and it stops being binaural. Subtle by design.

myNoise-style: several binaural pairs at consonant intervals. Each fundamental beats at Δ; the soft waveform adds a second harmonic, which beats at 2Δ. Reads as "shimmer" in the chord.

One carrier, amplitude-modulated at Δ. Shape changes the pulse from rounded to sharper; duty sets the active portion of each cycle. This differs from separate-ear binaural beats and from mixing two tones within each ear. Pulses can be heard on speakers; evidence from binaural studies does not automatically apply to this method. Pan moves the sound between channels.

Low felt pulse (DAVID / Weil style). drift eases from the start bpm to the end bpm as the transition progresses (it holds at the start bpm when no session is running). Starting near your own resting pulse is an aesthetic idea, not a way to slow your heart — an external tempo has not been shown to pull it. "lock" snaps to a Δ subdivision — jumps when Δ moves.

brainaural-style: noise as the carrier, amplitude-modulated at Δ — amplitude modulation again, with no binaural pair and no two-tone monaural beat. No pitch, so it never clashes with the music's key. Pan = bilateral.
