LIVED-EXPERIENCE AUTHORITY

Influence Source Page 60 Reconciled

🟩 Canonical Text

LIVED-EXPERIENCE
AUTHORITY
This form of influence stems from having personally navigated the terrain others are now crossing. Leaders with Lived-Experience Authority inspire confidence because they have been there—through failure, hardship, transition, or complexity—and carry embodied understanding rather than theoretical knowledge. People follow because they sense authenticity and practical wisdom forged through experience. This authority resonates deeply in moments of uncertainty or vulnerability, when teams want to know that someone truly understands what the journey feels like.

🟩 One-Line Description

Inspires confidence and followership because they have actually been there.

🟩 Light-Side Copy (Core Challenge)

Earns trust through direct, in-the-trenches experience that others respect as authentic and credible.

🟩 Shadow-Side Copy (Key Demands)

Can overgeneralize from personal history, dismissing new data or perspectives with “that’s not how we did it.”
